Recently estranged from her best friend and weeks away from shifting from only child to big sister, seventh grader Beatrix Lee consoles herself by writing haiku in invisible ink and hiding the poems, but one day she finds a reply--is it the librarian with all the answers, the editor of the school paper who admits to admiring her poetry, an old friend feeling remorse, or the boy obsessed with visiting the local labyrinth?

Omg what an awesome book. I went through a plethora of emotions. At one point i was yelling at the book, laughing at the awkwardness of what was going on or crying my eyes out. The interaction between CJ and Bea will have you on the edge of your seat. Loved seeing their banter and how one basically worshipped the other. What a 5 star book/5(55).   Yeh, Kat The Way to , [p] Trade ed. ISBN $ E-book ed. ISBN $ Reviewed from galleys R Gr. 6–9Author: Rebecca Linares.

The Way to Bea by Kat Yeh, in my opinion, is packaged much The way to Bea book than it reads. It sounds like a cute, middle-grade story about friends and mazes and labyrinths and secret notes. And there was a lot of cuteness, but the lying, skipping school, oblivious parents, and more made it feel much older than the blurb let on and not what I was hoping for/5.

Parents need to know that The Way to Bea is a charming coming-of-age story about a year-old girl who uses her poetry to cope with the arrival of a new sibling and the awkward transition to middle school. Without explicitly naming popular movies, TV shows, books, or songs, the book references The Karate Kid, Grey's Anatomy, Jerry Spinelli's Stargirl, Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten," Jimmy 5/5.

When Bea emerges from the intricately drawn maze of her conflicting feelings, she makes a mature decision with a compassionate twist. The author includes a list of the songs in Bea’s soundtrack, but her allusions to other books go unidentified, enjoyable Extra Credit Curveballs (as Bea’s teacher would call them).Author: Kat Yeh.

The Way to Bea is beautiful -- it captures the joys and pains of the deep friendships of childhood as well as the excitement that comes with learning one's strengths and craft.

Bea's message encourages strength, courage and hope - and also kindness. It's a book to enjoy and to share/5(36). In a welcome divergence from the traditional coming-of-age novel, Kat Yeh's The Way to Bea is not the story of a young girl discovering who she is, but rather a girl who knows from harsh experience that being yourself can be the fastest way to trouble.

The way to Bea book has created an indelible character in Bea. Her story shines most brightly in its juxtaposition of Bea's "true" self—in all its dancing Brand: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

As Allie and Bea begins, Bea, a tough woman in her seventies, has been fleeced of her remaining money by a con man. Left with few options, Bea decides to live in her van and make her way up the coast of California to try and find a place to reside/5. We love the way that Bea works through her struggles and discovers who she’s really meant to be, and we know this book will inspire other kids like Bea, break out of their shell, and find the hope to get them through their troubles.
